Cinema House
This memory is for my Pops, Mr Thomas Raymond Manley who has recently passed on. We talked for hours about his time in Wales as a young boy. He lived in Evanstown near Gilfach Goch and had very fond memories of visiting the picture house after school with his friends, it was 72 odd years ago! He also talked about how his mother would go to the soup kitchens as they were very poor. Pops moved to Bedford when he was 10, like I said that was 72 years ago. He went on to have the most amazing family but always loved to talk of his life in Wales. He had lots of sisters and brothers, cannot remember all their names but there was Phyllis and Jean and Len. Does anyone remember this family? I would love to hear from you if you do!!! Last edited: 10/11/2008 08:43 by Becky Manley |

Griffs shop, I think that is what it was called it's still there
I can remember the fan, what a noise, you get used to it. Also the racket the trams made on the way up the mountain. The shop I refer to is at the top end of the valley, they had someone who belongs to them live in an end house that's still there, this person I can recall used to sell cockles. Also when the pit was going I used to be afraid of the compresser which you could feel and the noise of the steam engines. Most of my father's relations are from Gilfach, families' names WHITE AND SAMUELS. Last edited: 10/11/2008 08:45 by Anthony White |

Can Anyone Help?
Does anyone know the whereabouts of a Melvyn Winters, he was/is from Gilfach Goch and in the 1960s he had a relationship with Rita Sparkes resulting in a daughter. We would love it if anyone knew of his whereabouts as his daughter Wendy would love him to get in touch! The only other information we have is his father's name was William Winters and he had a younger sister and 3 older brothers. If anyone has any information please email jamiedjuk@yahoo.co.uk Once again thanks for any assistance. Last edited: 28/07/2008 15:29 by James Hornsey |

Father in-law
Hi there. My father-in-law was born in Gilfach Goch but left when he was a child. It was not long ago me and my husband took him back and he was quite shocked to see how much the place has changed. The address he used to live at is no longer there, not even a road. Anyway before we left Mr Raymond Cook (my father-in-law) wanted to know what Gilfach Goch is in English as he cannot remember. Please help. Thanks. Last edited: 25/04/2007 10:05 by Bobbie Cook |
