National Service
My name is Graham Ward and between 1955 - 1957 I was a National Serviceman based at the RAPC camp just outside Stockbridge. I have fond memories of Stockbridge and would like to renew aquaintance with anyone who remembers me.

Sweet shop run...
this street is the scene of many a frantic cycle to the sweet shop (aka village shop) at the bottom of the hill, eager to hand over our week's pocket money to Mr Knight who ran the shop.
This view is roughly from the pub on the corner (the red lion?), that was run by a landlord that strangely became rather irate when his triumph stag was pelted with mud balls from a strategically positioned hedge. happy days...

Snow time
My father was the local postman until he had a serious accident at Middle Wallop. One of my memories of Nether Wallop was him telling me how it had snowed so hard on one occasion that when he delivered mail in School Lane where the wind blew in off the aerodrome he was dropping the mail through the upstairs windows of the houses there. Also being able to walk down to Mrs Salter's shop to buy 6 pennorth of sweets. I was married in St Andrew's Church in 1968, I met my wife at the Nether Wallop post office where she worked for Mr Munn. My sister Margaret Hayward to this day still lives in Aylwards Way. Water Colour Painting
I have two beautiful original water colour paintings of Nether Wallop. One is of St Andrews Church and the other is of a thatched cottage leading up to the church.
Both are signed E Flower 41 and I was hoping someone may be able to help me find out more about this artist.

view of the High Street show how little it changed
throughout the 20th century, with the exception of
traffic problems and an increased number of tourists.
Apart from the introduction of a pedestrianisation
scheme and some new shop fronts, it remains much
the same today.

Beyond the water meadows of the River Itchen is the Iron Age
hillfort of St Catherine’s Hill, the site of a maze which perhaps
was used by penitent local monks, who would be blindfolded as
they attempted to trace its paths. The view from the hill is one of
the finest in Hampshire.

Westgate dominated the western defences of the old
city. It dates originally from the 12th century, and
was reinforced during the Hundred Years War in
anticipation of an attack by the French. The entire
structure stands on the site of an earlier Roman fortification.

A walk from the Square brings the visitor across a green and open
space to the Norman Cathedral. Tourists come from all over the
world to visit this architectural and spiritual gem.

Looking along Broadway with the statue
of Alfred the Great clearly visible, this
view shows Winchester Cathedral in all
its glory. Notice the army barracks on the
hill beyond.
